For Colored Girls Screening: Thandie Newton and BFFs

Who else but Tyler Perry could bring Ntozake Shange’s choreo-poem “For Colored Girl’s” to the bring screen? I shudder to think of an answer to that question. Seriously! Ain’t that many folks in Hollywood who have the know how. Alright, so he shortened the title a bit – but it sure as hell ain’t any less impactful!
And who else could compile a cast with this much talented pigmentation? Nobody!
When you have Thandie Newton, Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Kimberly Elise, Anika Noni Rose, Tessa Thompson, Kerry Washington, Macy Gray, Phylicia Rashad and Ruby Dee – and that’s just the women – starring in the screen adaptation giving life to the immortal epic cry of minority sub-group that have been versed on stages from coast to coast, you can’t say nothing but give praise to Madea and her genius.
Hell if Perry ain’t poised to launch a whole new Hollywood right up in here.
Now I ain’t goin to get up on some soapbox and shout about how black women have had their troubles made to bathe in their own tears and so forth… That would just be wrong of me and somewhat redundant. Y’all know this. But I can say that this flick has the makings to serve as an anthem to those who’ve suffered and felt no voice of their own with which to scream.
This is “For Colored Girl’s Who’ve Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf”.
Other notable attendees: Roshumba, Francia Raisa, Niecy Nash, Montego Glover, Estelle, Veronica Webb, Ciara, Laura Izibor, Pattie Labelle, Jaycee, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Simone and the scribe herself – Ntozake Shange.
Met Gala Recap

It pains me to have to say this (seriously, I am still recovering) but the annual happenings of The Met Gala is too much of a good thing. True that there is no other event in NYC that rivals – not even Fashion Week – its level of star power. But covering its three hour arrivals slot is exhausting – to say the least – leaving you to have to play catch up for days – case and point: my doing this recap today.
Celebrities from every corner of entertainment – from fashion to sociallites to Hollywood and beyond – all cluster onto the steps of the famed museum for the annual unveiling of The Costume Institute’s high-brow exhibit.
It is my understanding that some have even cried for an invite. I can’t say I fault em really. I myself would perform Cirque du Soleil numbers just to get to cover it – I won’t say anything about what I’d be willing to do to attend…
But the night isn’t without its high lights for us minions. For me watching Naomi Watts’ reaction to being told to move as Jude Law and Sienna Miller walked behind her up the stairs is priceless. No offense to Ms. Watts.
Now that I am semi-recovered I’ve put together a highlight of attendees at whats become NYC’s version of the West Coast’s awards season: Daniel Craig, Emma Roberts, Naomi Watts, Janet Jackson, Anne Hathaway, Rosario Dawson, Abbie Cornish and Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady – to name a few. Stay tuned for another recap.
Janet Jackson: Why Did I Get Married Too Screening

Sharon Leal, Janet Jackson and Tasha Smith wowed with fashion at Tyler Perry’s NYC screening of “Why Did I Get Married Too,” last night at the SVA Theater.
Of course the chaos quickly went from controled to chaotic upon Ms. Jackson’s (yes, I am nasty!) arrival on the red carpet.
Accompanied by her sister Rebbie “Centipede” Jackson and flanked by bodyguards, her time on the step-and-repeat could’ve rivaled Obama’s security detail. But in the end no one cared – least of all me! Girl is thin again and looks like she hasn’t aged a day.
But the nights press line winner goes hands down to multi-tasker extra-ordinaire – Mr. Tyler Perry who made it a point to stop at every attending press member and spoke eloquently and elaborately on a multitude of topics including Mo’Nique and her decision to play the part how she saw fit – against his advice.
Other notable attendees: Cicely Tyson, Jill Scott, Michael Jai White and Malik Yoba.

Chris Daughtry provided the hotness that pussy Justin Timberlake couldn’t see himself to bestow to the awaiting press line at the UJA Federation Honors luncheon, held at The Pierre Hotel, yesterday.
Anytime, Daughtry, anytime!
Janet is Totally PG!

I’ve long suspected that Janet Jackson is totally PG. As Mary was with Jesus, except she does know who the father is! From the start of her cancellations I said: She’s totally with child!
Ms. Nasty Jackson at MSG

I have been a fan of Janet Jackson’s since her “Good Times’” Penny days. I could never resist those plump little cheeks of hers and of course – that smile. So when JT’s text arrived, inviting me to Ms. Jackson’s (Yes, I’m nasty girl…) closing night MSG “Rock Witchu” concert, on Saturday night – from a skybox no less – I gleefully replied a definitive, YES!
I have never seen the one mildly well adjusted Jackson in concert. So I was open to whatever came off stage. What was delivered was a retrospective of a long ass career, most of which had me experiencing major flashbacks to days-of-ole!
I had half a mind to yell out ‘Bitch! I’m ain’t really ready to confront aging myself through Control!’ but I was knee deep in overcoming my own vertigo (the skyboxes aren’t sealed!) and complying with girl in sing-a-longs!
And much like the recruited audience member strapped to the SnM gizmo, during her bondage segment, I too was saying “I want this!”
First Madge and now Ms. Jackson! My homo card is so solid…
