There are some folks that we cannot deny being die hard admirers of… Angela Bassett and Forest Whitaker easily make the list. Without a doubt two of the most talented actors around. That’s fact. These two have joined forces – along with Jennifer Hudson and Jacob Latimore (not pictured) – to bring Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity classic to the big screen. The film is slated for a 2014 release and makes for a mandatory ‘save the date’ must see note. And perhaps it will arrive early enough for the x-mas end of the year season. William Balfour, the man found guilty of murdering singer Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and young nephew, in 2008, has been handed three life sentencings, reports state. A Cook County judge handed down the life behind bars decision, for the triple murder, on Tuesday.
Circuit Judge Charles Burns denied a request from Balfour’s attorney for a new trial, reports USA Today.
Balfour, Hudson’s brother-in-law, was convicted of the heinous acts a little over a year ago and is believed to have gunned down the trio after a jealous rage involving his estranged wife dating another man.
Although no sentencing can bring back Hudson’s loved ones, we do hope this brings some type of closure for the talented American Idol alum after having gone through such a horrific tragedy.
OSCAR winning actress, GRAMMY winning singer and over-all beauty queen Jennifer Hudson has proven her vocal prowess, repeatedly, by tackling songs originated by the likes of Gladys Knight and Jennifer Holiday. Her covers are as poignant as the divas before her. Girl’s voice is no joke! So what’s a golden voiced new mom left to do? Record a cover of the classic Lullaby! Cuz you know, babies ain’t looking to hear no razzle dazzle when its nap time. And if you can’t get the sentiment right, they will let you know it. So as she tackles the last frontier – babies – Pampers hosted a special listening party for Hudson’s latest venture at E-Space, yesterday, right here in NYC!
Truth be told, we wouldn’t want to sleep a wink while girlfriend is at the mic. So we’d be just as difficult as a nap-seeking toddler full of fuss. But that’s not to say that J-Hud couldn’t put our troubles to rest right quick if she put her mind to it!
We dashed into mid-town to catch her quick step-and-repeat and, although she was some twenty minutes late, we were all giddy when she stepped out full of smiles and eye contact!

The Met Gala rolled around – once again – last night. The famed Costume Institutes annual fete celebrating the world of fashion, lead by non-other than Vogue editrix Anna Wintour at the helm. This years event celebrated Alexander McQueen’s vision, aptly titled “Savage Beauty.” And there was a lot of both savagery and tons of beauty! Lea Michele, Evan Rachel Wood, Gwyneth Paltrow, preggers Kate Hudson, Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, her madgesty Madonna, Fergie, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Hudson, Saoirse Ronan, Penelope Cruz in Oscar de la Renta, a Pippy Long Stocking-esque Rihanna, the ever dramatic Renee Zelwegger and a booed Beyonce.
Drama always ensues during the two plus hours of step-and-repeat. It just does! All starts out calmly enough, but you blink and WHAM. Drama unfolds. No biggy really given the magnitude of the night.
This years notable mentions…
Fergie’s dashing testosterone fueled husband Josh Duhamel getting into a tete-a-tete with a certain West Coast pap and calling him a “pussy.” Unjustly so – we might add! (UPDATE: Video Posted Below – courtesy of DMBJOnline.com)
Beyonce being booed the entire time she made her way up the stairs and into the venue for not skipping more than 4/5 of the arrivals press line.
A portion of the paps line refusing to photograph Solange Knowles in response to her sisters snub.
A certain Missoni shedding bits of her dress the entire way up the stairs.
And Renee performing a very deeply method posing story – which we personally L-O-V-E-D!
Yes, VF was loaded with all the beautiful women Hollywood has to offer – Gwyneth Paltrow sparkling in a one-shouldered shimmery form hugging gown, Jennifer Hudson looking stunning in orange, Kate Beckinsale demonstrating exactly how basic black should be worn, Sofia Vergara and her amazing curves, Kerry Washington sporting a Studio 54 ready disco chic number, Hailee Steinberg conveying youth and elegance, Charlize Theron in white, Anne Hathaway dazzling in burgundy, Ginnifer Goodwin – loved the do and the frock, Emma Roberts looking simple and elegant, Anika Noni Rose in peach.
There were other eye-catchers, just peruse the gallery below and you will get the idea – but we have a soft spot for Little Red Riding Hood. Sue us.
But of course there have to be fashion faux pas. Glee’s Lea Michele – what the hell kind of blue sequins Frankenstein number was that? Madonna – where did she think she was going? And Cameron Diaz – we’ve seen you in that micro-mini style dress before. We get it, you have long legs.
If you go the way of commenting on our tardiness – well, you can stop now! Our West Coast run was tiresome and not so warm… We had to return to NY to thaw out. But in the end it was all worthwhile… especially now that we have caught up on some rest and revisited our coverage.
When George Clooney picks up the phone and asks his colleagues for help, it seems folks come a running from every walk of entertainment. From Madonna to Daniel Craig, Jennifer Hudsonn and Taylor Lautner to Mel Gibson and beyond… That’s clout! And it’s amazing to see it happen.
There is little to be said about last night’s “Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief“, that hasn’t already been stated, so I won’t even try to come up with some double entendre, glib comment or slight innuendo. Just don’t go thinking it will be common practice henceforth.
It’s just a good cause asking for desperately needed aid for a country that, on a good day, can use help. Throw in this massive quake, which has left the nation devastated, and they not only need global aid but everything else the world can spare.
I of all folks know it is hard to give when you barely have enough yourself – but as Stevie Wonder attested while manning the phones on the program, “a whole lot of littles make a whole lot of lots.” Give whatever you can spare.
This insult was exacerbated by the knowledge of a certain blogger being afforded a spot on the arrivals line. Oddly enuf said blogger never has anything original to post and, on average, simply posts the captions entered into the photos he publishes by the likes of people like me. Most original that one.
Relax, relate, release!
Work it out Diva!
We do greatly appreciate it when Jen graces the streets with her glow.
